The Autism Society in cooperation with AMC Theaters is showing another sensory friendly film tomorrow, March 10, 2012. This special screening offers children who have been diagnosed with autism a chance to watch a movie in a sensory friendly environment.
To ensure the comfort of the children watching the movie, all participating AMC Theaters will not enforce the usual theater rules during this special screening. Theaters will be brighter than usual as the theater will be lit up during the entire movie.
This way, children who are uncomfortable in the dark will not have to worry about sitting in the dark while they watch the movie. In addition, the audio of the movie will also be turned down to a comfortable level so that children who are sensitive to loud noises will not get upset or distracted by the volume.
You will also be pleased to know that during the special sensory friendly film screening, all participating AMC Theaters make it a point to start the movie on time. No movie previews and advertisements will be shown prior to the movie so your child will not have to sit down through all those.
If you know that your child gets impatient with long waiting times, simply bring your child in just in time for the movie and you can be assured that the movie will start right on time.
All children and their family members are also free to walk around while watching the movie. In addition, the children will be free to talk, shout or sing while watching the movie. All these will be tolerated unless the safety of the movie goers are in question.
During this special screening, you are also welcome to bring in your own gluten-free and casein-free snacks.
The movie scheduled to be shown tomorrow is The Lorax, which is an adaptation of the popular book by Dr. Seuss.
The story of The Lorax depicts a world where man’s selfishness has destroyed all the trees in favor of their progress. In the movie, a twelve-year-old boy searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it, he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world.

Wow, this is really great! Thank you for sharing this… All movie goers, regardless of their disabilities, should have the ability to enjoy seeing a movie!
Hi, Was wondering what time of day this showing will take place. The closest AMC theater to me is in Homestead, PA. Tried to call the phone number for this theater but nothing is listed for a special showing of The Lorax.. Please advise as soon as possible so that we may take our Autistic Son to see this movie. This is much appreciated.
This special movie screening is scheduled at 10am local time. It is best that you call the AMC Theater first as not all AMC Theaters participate in this.
